Life in the Slow Lane

In recent years, there's been a huge emphasis on living life in the fast lane, between hustle culture and everybody needing a side gig these days, it feels like we are being pushed so hard to monetize our hobbies. Plus with the birth of capable AI technology we(humans) are now in a mad dash to try to keep up with machines that churn out content quicker than we ever could. It can feel so discouraging to look around and wonder how do we keep going like this? The truth is, we don’t.

We're at that stage of capitalism, where rest is revolutionary. Where choosing not to spend every waking moment of your life being productive is seen as threatening the status quo, but we must if we want things to change. And that's just what I do. I encourage the people I love to rest, to not focus on being productive, to not use the metrics of capitalism to decide if we are or aren't worthy of reward or rest.

I know that it takes great courage to fight the programming that we are being constantly fed. I know it is scary to try something new, something different. I know that some of us have to fight tooth and nail to escape the system which bleeds us dry and attempts to suck every ounce of productivity out of us. But we must if we want things to change.

I would ask you, what metrics would you use to measure your success in a world without “the grind”? In a world where money isn’t valued over human life or human happiness? I try to measure the success of my days by how many people I made life easier for, how many smiles I shared with those that I love, how many kisses I gave.

If we want things to get better we can’t wait for someone to come save us, we have to start making these small changes to our own thoughts, our own lives.

We must, if we want things to change.
