Cultivating Community
WITCHLIGHT on Warren st has been open for 4 months, and I have spent much of that time just trying to keep my head on straight. I never could have predicted what the space would grow into. Over the course of these four months we've learned that the thing that people need more than anything else is a space to be in community.
It's no surprise that many of our freedoms are already being challenged at the federal level, or outright removed. In light of those recent events, we have decided to move forward by becoming an Interfaith Temple. Almost nothing will change for the day to day at Witchlight, but we will begin offering Saturday Services and a Saturday School program for children. Along with the perks of nonprofit status, as a religious institution we will also be able to enshrine our beliefs about gender, community care, and education to afford them protection at a federal level.
Our goal is to continue to educate on responsible spirituality, help our community through outreach, and build a sustainable inclusive, and affirming third space.
I have spent the week researching, planning and reaching out to those who will be most affected by the changes. One thing we are doing is shrinking our retail space, which allows us to offer more seating for services and events and have more things like board games and activities on hand. We will be transitioning our books to a library system, removing some of our crystal selections, and focusing more on events, workshops, individualized coaching and togetherness.
I hope you will consider donating to our mission to help us stay open and able to help others. This is not the end for us at WITCHLIGHT, but rather the beginning of a new path. Anyone who’s had an oracle reading with me before knows that I always tell people to follow the path that calls you, and now I too must answer that call.
Stay tuned for more updates!
